AD*STAR bags to be produced in Oman

Starlinger, Vienna, Austria, specialising in supply of production lines for woven plastic packaging, has won a contract for a 4.56 million euro machinery project for Omani flour producer Salalah Mills Co. The agreement was signed during the Business Opportunities Forum in Muscat on 17 November. This involves production of hot-air-welded AD*STAR block bottom valve bags and sewn woven bags made of polypropylene tape fabric. Starlinger’s scope of supply includes a tape extrusion line, winders circular looms as well as lamination and conversion lines.

With this investment Salalah Mills will be starting its own packaging production facility for woven polypropylene bags, aiming to become the biggest packaging supplier in Oman and the GCC area. The machinery will be installed by mid-2016 with production scheduled to start by the end of the year. Salalah Mills has a production capacity of 1500t of flour per day. Some 30% of production is exported to Yemen, countries in the horn of Africa and Tanzania. www.starlinger.com
